Synopsis
- Birdsong |
| |
Our
daily lives full of stress and deadlines, leave us little
time to pause and think about who we really are. Birdsong
attempts to show the audience how to go about unlocking the
secrets that govern their lives … and find their destiny.
There are truths within us, secrets we don't know and the
power of our minds, which we have yet to fully fathom. Healing
wounds, climbing newer peaks are all possible if we hear the
little bird that resides within us. A little bird that is
yearning to be set free. |
| |
Our
protagonist Piali an investment banker in Mumbai, lives an
upwardly mobile lifestyle. This is fuelled by her relentless
drive to succeed. There is no semblance of life outside work,
to the extent that she hasn't gone to meet her father in their
hometown, for three years. Life takes a turn when an unexpected
guest arrives in her life. Abhay is a traveling writer and
has come to Mumbai in search of a story. |
| |
Being
a writer he believes that dreams are the key to unlocking
your destiny. Accidental circumstances help him get close
to Piali and he helps her rediscover her dreams. The story
ends with Piali shedding her emotional baggage, setting the
little bird within her, free. |

Treatment
: |

Done in conversational style there is an absence of heavy
and preachy dialogue. The play reflects the times we live
in, our value system and a path that can be followed. Laced
with popular music influences, both old and new, presented
with quick wit and humour the production pays tribute to some
of Gulzar's laconic philosophy and R D Burman's immortal tunes.
One of the key highlights is a dream sequence conveyed through
a modern dance presentation using shadow and light.
